Welcome to How I Learn

How I Learn is a Wellington-based educational psychology assessment service.  It is run by clinical psychologists, Emma Levy and Polly Schaverien, along with a team of clinical and educational psychologists. We work with children, adolescents and adults to explore learning potential, and the areas of academic ability and difficulty that impact learning.

People use our assessment services to:

  • Understand why they are facing learning challenges at school, in study or on the job.
  • Identify and diagnose specific learning disorders such as dyslexia, and intellectual disability.
  • Identify gifted and talented learners.
  • Support Special Assessment Condition (SAC) applications to NZQA.

Unsure if you, or your child, could benefit from an assessment? Unsure if you should even be worried? That's fine!

Contact Polly or Emma to discuss your concerns.  We can talk about what's going on and whether an assessment could be helpful. If we can't help, we will refer you on to another service that might better meet your needs.

How I Learn - bookings update 30th June 2020.

Bookings for new referrals opened on Tuesday 30th June 2020.  Thanks to everyone who completed the contact form. Due to unprecedented demand, we appear to be fully subscribed for Term 3. If you have completed a contact form, we will be in touch shortly to let you know if we can assist.

We apologise that we may not be able to meet all requests for assessments.  We have grown our team to six this year, but are still struggling to meet demand.  How I Learn will continue to accommodate as many assessments as we can, while maintaining our commitment to tailored, indepth, quality assessment processes.

We will open bookings for Term 4 at 8am on Tuesday 8th September 2020. The contact form will again be placed on the contact page of our website at that time.
