Welcome to How I Learn

How I Learn is a Wellington-based educational and clinical psychology assessment service.  It is run by clinical psychologists, Emma Levy and Polly Schaverien, along with a team of clinical and educational psychologists. We work with children, adolescents and adults to explore learning potential, areas of academic ability and difficulty, and a range of behavioural and social-emotional challenges that impact learning.

People use our assessment services to:

  • Understand why they are facing learning challenges at school, in study or on the job.
  • Understand how behavioural and/or social-emotional challenges may be contributing to learning challenges.
  • Identify and diagnose specific learning disorders such as dyslexia, intellectual disability, and behavioural challenges such as ADHD.
  • Identify gifted and talented learners.
  • Support Special Assessment Condition (SAC) applications to NZQA.

Unsure if you, or your child, could benefit from an assessment? Unsure if you should even be worried? That's fine!

Contact Polly or Emma to discuss your concerns.  We can talk about what's going on and whether an assessment could be helpful. If we can't help, we will refer you on to another service that might better meet your needs.

Bookings for Assessments

Bookings for assessments in Term 4 have now closed.  We will re-open referrals on Monday 9th December 2019. At that time, we will be making bookings for Term 1 of 2020.  If you are interested in arranging an assessment, please use the form on the contact page.  The contact form will reappear on the website when bookings re-open.
